Once you log into the myEdison Experience site, you will see a notification at the top, left with a link to set up your MFA. Click that link to get started. (Verbiage in notification may vary from what is seen here).
On the My Sign-Ins Security Page, click ‘+ Add sign-in method’.
Then, choose your sign-in method from our supported MFA methods. The University strongly recommends using the Microsoft Authenticator app.
- Microsoft Authenticator App
To proceed with the Microsoft Authenticator app, click the option for Microsoft Authenticator. (Scroll down to section 3 for instructions on using an alternate authenticator app)
If you haven’t already, download and install the Microsoft Authenticator app on your cell phone. Then click Next.
Open the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone and select the ‘+’ to add the account, then select Work or School.
Then, you can either ‘Sign in’ or ‘Scan QR code.’
If you choose ‘Sign in’, proceed with signing in with your full TESU student email as the username and your myEdison Experience password. That will add your account manually to the Authenticator app.
If you choose ‘Scan QR code’…you’ll be prompted momentarily.
Click ‘Next’ to advance after you make your choice in the app.
If you chose to Scan QR code, the next screen will display your QR code to scan from your phone app. Scan the code from the app to automatically add that account to the Authenticator app. Then click ‘Next.’
Once the account is added, you will be prompted to enter the number on the screen to verify your identity. Then click ‘Yes.’
You have now completed the setup for MFA with the Microsoft Authenticator app. You will now be prompted to approve your login each time.
2. Using Your Phone for SMS or Phone Call
You can choose to use your phone to verify your identity via SMS (text) or a phone call. Choose ‘Phone’ from the sign-in method list. Enter your country code, phone number, and verification method when prompted. Select ‘Receive a code’ (SMS). Then click ‘Next.’
A code will then be sent to your phone via text (or a voice call to confirm it’s you if you prefer). Enter that code when prompted.
Enter the code from the text message on your login screen and click ‘Next.’
This should register your phone. You’ll receive the confirmation screen below. Click ‘Done.’ You’ll use this method to log in each time you sign in.
2a. Alternate phone
This follows the same process as Phone, but it lets you add an additional phone number to receive a confirmation phone call and enter a code.
3. Alternate Authenticator App
While students are able to use a different authenticator app, we strongly suggest using Microsoft’s as it is best supported by TESU. For these instructions, we’ll use Google Authenticator.
Click the Microsoft Authenticator option on the ‘Add sign-in’ option screen.
Click the link – ‘I want to use a different authenticator app’ then click ‘Next’.
In the app, click the option to add a new account. For Google Authenticator, this is the ‘+’ icon in the bottom right of the app screen.
From there, click to ‘Scan a QR Code.’
Back on the setup screen, click ‘Next’ to get the QR Code to scan.
Scan the QR Code from the App and it should add your account to your chosen app.
Once the account is added…you should be ready to enter your code when you login to the myEdison Experience site.
